Astipalaia Dodekanisou

Astypalaia is located between Amorgos and Kos and is the “bridge” that connects the Cyclades to the Dodecanese. It belongs to the latter, but the natural landscape, the villages and the island’s folklore combine characteristics from both the Cyclades and the Dodecanese.  The island has an irregular shape: it is comprised of two parts which are connected together with a small isthmus. The beaches that can be found along the coastline are beautiful and ideal for a rejuvenating dive in the crystal clear waters.

The main town of Astypalaia (or Astropalia for the locals), is one of the most beautiful towns of the Aegean. It is built on a rock that enters the sea; an impressive sight with its densely-built whitewashed houses, whitewashed streets and small gardens with bougainvillea flowers. In the picturesque village you will also find churches with blue domes and ornate bell towers as well as old windmills. At the top of the rock you will see the Venetian castle of Quirini, which brings back memories from a time long gone.

Astypalea is an island with rich folk tradition that the inhabitants keep alive until nowadays. The island's fairs are among the most famous of the Aegean and special traditions accompany all major religious festivals. The inhabitants of the island are friendly and well-known for their hospitality and love about their home country. The island is, without doubt, the ideal summer destination as it combines natural beauty and positive energy.

How to get there:

  • By plane from Athens with five direct flights per week and three flights per week from Rhodes via Leros and Kos.
