Folegandros Kykladon

The island of Folegandros is located in the southwestern part of the Cyclades between Milos and Sikinos. It is a rocky island with dry landscape. The vegetation consists mainly of Mediterranean species of shrubs and small trees while the eastern side of the island has become a nature reserve due to a varied of species of birds that live there.

The island still retains a trace of authenticity with its traditional villages and beautiful beaches. The town (Chora) of Folegandros is one of the most beautiful and best preserved villages of the Cyclades. It is built at an altitude of 200m, on the edge of a steep cliff in order to offer protection from the pirate raids in the past. The landscape is breathtaking with its whitewashed houses and cobblestoned alleys. The Castle, a medieval settlement in the main town, is still inhabited even though it is ten centuries old. Ano Meria is the second largest village on the island and is one of the few Cycladic settlements that maintain an authentic rural character. It consists mainly of independent cottages, which locals call "themonies”.

By the mid-1980s Folegandros was one of the islands of barren line. With the development of tourist infrastructure, it now welcomes many tourists every year. Folegandros is an ideal destination for those seeking a relaxing holiday in a place with beautiful beaches, picturesque villages and hospitable people who maintain their traditions.

How to get there:

  • By speedboats from Piraeus: In the summer there are speedboats on a daily basis. The journey takes 3.5 - 4 hours.
  • By ferry: The trip lasts about 11 hours.
  • Folegandros is connected by local boats with the islands of Thira, Anafi, Thirassia, Ios, Sikinos, Naxos, Paros, Syros, Kythnos and Kea.
