Hydra is a very cosmopolitan and modern Argosaronic island. It's very close to Athens and it's situated on a hill around a picturesque port. A characteristic feature of Hydra is that cars are prohibited so all transport is done on foot, by boat or by riding a donkey. The island is well known not only for its natural beauties, its wonderful beaches and its green surroundings but also for the historical role that played during the Greek War of Independence in 1821.
