Zakynthos or Zante, as it is also known, is one of the most popular islands in the Ionian, it has exceptional beauty, great cuisine, amazing beaches with crystal clear waters.
Zakynthos was under the Venetian Rule, like all the other Ionian islands. This was the most interesting period of the island because the culture of Zakynthos was shaped. It was named the Florence of Greece due to its architecture and highly educated residents. The capital and main harbor is called Zakynthos Town or Zante. The town had a particular architecture; it was influenced by the Venetians, the French and the English who occupied the island in the past. The new Town was built on the ruins of the ancient one.
The traditional village of Bohali is a lovely place where you can find traditional taverns and cafes. Also Zakynthos has famous sandy beaches, such as Navagio, Argasi, Gerakas, Alikes, Porto Roma and many others.
