Aliki - Chortarolimni

The wetlands of Chortarolimni, Aliki (the largest natural salt lake in Greece) and Asprolimni, are considered the most important wetlands Greece and are included in the network Natura 2000. All three of them are an exceptional ecosystem for over 4,000 species of birds like herons, avocets, kingfishers, glossy ibis and flamingos.

The Environmental Information Centre of Calliope was established in 2001. It is housed in the building of the former primary school of the village. Its purpose is to inform visitors about the environment and to protect and enhance the natural beauty of the area.
