Preveli

This is the most famous beach of South Rethymno and one of the most beautiful of Crete. The rare palm forest that embraces the banks of Kourtaliotis river and the sandy beaches that is in front of the crystal clear sea, give a magical atmosphere to the place. The palm forest was partially destroyed by fire, but young palm trees have begun to sprout and thus giving Preveli its natural beauty back. The beach is organized so you can find umbrellas and sunbeds as well as canoes to enjoy fun on water. A walk along the banks of the river is equally rewarding as you can walk till the point the rocks form a border that terminates the path through the gorge.  You can access the beach by car, following the road to Plakias. Shortly after Lefkogia, you follow the signs to Lake Preveli, until you find yourself in a large parking lot with a path that will lead you to the beach. You will have the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent view from the top, but it will take you about 15-20 minutes to arrive at the beach. Alternatively follow the dirt road until Amoudi and then take the short and easy path to Preveli. You can also reach the beach by boat from Agia Galini or Plakias.
