Wedding, Thassos
Marriage in that old age in the village was an important event, a landmark in the life of two people who probably did not know each other and had never met before. This was due to the fact that most marriages were arranged marriages.
Many times the future couple came from different villages.
Back in time, marriage – putting the wreaths- took place at the bride's home, where the groom went with all his relatives, his friends, the guests, accompanied by music instruments. Later, weddings began to take place exclusively in the church. If the houses were near they would go in procession on foot, with the instruments playing.
This important event was lived intensely, not only by the future couple and their relatives, but also by the local community. Even those who were not invited went to the church to watch the mystery.
The marriage was fun and joyful and endless feast.
In the past years, wedding customs were a lot and they were all trying to adhere to them with meticulous precision because they believed that if they did not, the new house that was about to be created with this marriage, couldn’t put down roots.
